Farm Land Clearing in Union County, Ohio

Union County is still farm ground, even with Marysville and Plain City filling in fast around it. Old fence lines grow up in honeysuckle, fields get a brushy edge nobody planted, and the wooded corner next to the barn has been "getting to" for a decade. Meanwhile the same growth is happening on the development side: builders and landowners clearing lots for new construction as Columbus metro expansion pushes further out US-33 and SR-161. We work both sides of that, with the same equipment and the same crew.

BS Farms & Contracting clears farm ground, fence rows, food plots, and building lots across Union County, including Marysville, Plain City, Richwood, Milford Center, Unionville Center, Magnetic Springs, Raymond, Peoria, Irwin, and Broadway. This isn't a side job for us. We're a family-run outfit that owns its own excavators and skid steers, and agricultural ground is where the name BS Farms & Contracting comes from.

Routine clearing on your own property usually doesn't require a permit. Clearing near a regulated stream, wetland, or floodplain can trigger permitting requirements, and open burning of debris is regulated by Ohio EPA and local township rules. We flag anything that looks like it needs a permit during the initial walk, before equipment shows up.

Scope of work

What this service covers

  • Fence line and fence row clearing, including old wire and posts, not just the brush
  • Pasture and food plot clearing and reclamation
  • Building lot clearing down to buildable dirt, including stumps and root balls
  • Ditch bank and waterway edge clearing, with attention to any regulated stream or wetland nearby
  • Old structure, fence, and debris removal

How it goes

The sequence, step by step.

You should know what happens next at every stage. Here is how we run this job.

  1. 01

    Walk the boundary

We confirm what's coming out and what's staying, flag property lines and any utilities, and note trees you want left standing.

  2. 02

    Clear

Trees and brush come out with excavator and skid steer attachments. If there's merchantable timber, we can set it aside instead of chipping or burning it.

  3. 03

    Grub the roots

We pull root balls rather than cutting at grade. Cut-and-leave stumps rot out over years and leave voids that cause settling later, which matters whether you're going to farm the ground, build on it, or just mow it.

  4. 04

    Clean up and finish

Debris is burned on site, chipped, or hauled off depending on your preference and local burn rules. If you want the ground graded and seeded when we're done, we handle that too.

Common questions

Union County Land Clearing FAQ

Real answers, including the numbers people actually want.

We can do either. Most jobs, the old wire and posts are as much the problem as the brush, so we pull both. Tell us what you want kept.

Yes. We work the tree line and brush edge with an excavator and skid steer, staying off the plot itself, and can leave a buffer strip if you want one for cover.

Depending on your preference and local burn regulations, we burn on site, chip it, or haul it off. Usable timber or firewood can be stacked and left for you.

We pull root balls rather than cutting at grade. If the ground is going to be farmed, built on, or mowed, leftover stumps rot out and cause settling later.

Yes. BS Farms & Contracting is one crew and one set of owned equipment for septic systems, excavation, grading, and land clearing across Union, Champaign, Logan, Miami, and Clark counties.
