Excavation & Grading

Foundation & Basement Excavation in Champaign County, OH

Foundation excavation is unforgiving work. If the hole is off in dimension or elevation, every trade after you pays for it. We dig basements, crawlspaces, and footers to plan, on grade, and square, so the concrete crew can set forms the day they show up.

We work directly with builders on new construction and with homeowners adding on to an existing home. We also handle the backfill and foundation drainage once the walls are up and waterproofed.

How it goes

The sequence, step by step.

You should know what happens next at every stage. Here is how we run this job.

  1. 01

    Stake and set elevation

We work from the site plan and the builder's benchmark so the hole bottom is at the right elevation, not just the right footprint.

  2. 02

    Dig with over-dig

Excavated square and to depth, with enough room outside the wall line for the waterproofing crew to work safely.

  3. 03

    Footer trenching

Footers trenched clean and to width so the inspector passes them and the forms sit true.

  4. 04

    Backfill after the pour

Once walls are cured, waterproofed, and drain tile is in, we backfill in lifts and compact so the ground does not settle against the foundation.

Common questions

Foundation Excavation FAQ

Real answers, including the numbers people actually want.

A typical residential basement dig is one to two days on good soil with clear access. Rock, groundwater, or a tight site adds time. Footer trenching is usually another half day.

Yes. A large share of our excavation work is subcontracted from builders and general contractors in Champaign, Logan, Miami, Clark, and Union Counties. We are used to working a build schedule and hitting our window.

Yes. We install perimeter drain tile and washed stone at the footer and tie it to daylight or a sump, which is the difference between a dry basement and a recurring problem.

It depends on the site. If the grading plan can use it, we stockpile and reuse it for backfill and final grade. If not, we haul it off in our own trucks.
