It depends on your soil more than anything else. A conventional gravity leach field on well-draining soil costs meaningfully less than a mound system or an aeration system with a pump and control panel. We do not quote a number until after the soil evaluation, because anything given before that is a guess dressed up as a quote. Call for a free site visit and we will give you a firm written number.
The common signs are standing water or unusually green grass over the drain field, sewage odor near the tank or field, slow drains and gurgling toilets throughout the house rather than at one fixture, backups into the lowest drain, and an alarm sounding on an aeration or pump panel. Any of those means stop using water heavily and call. Continuing to load a struggling field is what turns a repair into a replacement.
Yes. Ohio Administrative Code 3701-29 requires a permit from your county health district for new installations and for replacing a failed system, plus an inspection before the system is covered. We handle the permit application and schedule the inspection as part of the job, working with Champaign Health District, Logan County Health District, Miami County Public Health, Clark County Combined Health District, and the Union County Health Department.

The longer part is the front end: scheduling the soil evaluation and getting the permit through the health district usually adds two to six weeks depending on the county and the season. We start that clock the day you approve the quote, so the sooner you decide, the sooner you break ground.

We own our excavators, skid steers, dozers, dump trucks, and tank trailer. That matters for you in two ways: we are not waiting on rental availability to start your job, and a half-day punch item does not turn into a full mobilization charge.
Yes, and it is one of the most commonly missed causes. A leach field only works if the soil below it can accept water. If groundwater or a collapsed field tile line is keeping that soil saturated, the field has nowhere to discharge and it backs up. We have saved systems that people had already been told to replace by fixing the drainage instead.
We do not finance in-house. Many customers use a home equity line or a contractor financing product through their bank, and some county programs offer assistance for failing household sewage treatment systems. Ohio EPA has funded repair and replacement assistance through local health districts in the past. Ask us and we will point you to what is currently available in your county.

Service details →In Ohio, a three-bedroom home typically requires a 1,500 gallon tank, and county health districts may require more for four or more bedrooms. The permit and system design set the final number. We size it to what your county will actually approve.
Not currently. We are stocking polyethylene (poly) tanks right now and are not sourcing concrete tanks at this time. Poly is lighter to handle and easier to place on tight-access sites; call us and we will tell you honestly whether it fits your project or what your options are if the site genuinely needs concrete.
Yes. We supply builders, plumbers, and other excavating contractors with poly tanks and accessories at contractor pricing, with delivery scheduled around your build calendar.
Yes. We deliver tanks to your site for you or your crew to set. We will need clear access for a loaded truck and confirmation that the excavation is ready.
Aeration System Sales & Service
Service details →An aerobic treatment unit pumps air into the wastewater so oxygen-loving bacteria break down solids much faster and more completely than in a conventional tank. The treated effluent is clean enough for a much smaller distribution field, which is why they work on lots where a standard leach field will not fit or will not pass.
It depends on the unit, the distribution method, and site conditions. Aeration systems cost more than a conventional system up front and carry ongoing service and electrical costs, but on a lot with bad soil they are often the only permittable option. We give a firm number after the soil evaluation, not before.
Yes, and this is not optional. The aerator runs continuously and the compressor, diffusers, and filters are wear items. Most manufacturers require documented service to keep the warranty, and many Ohio counties require an active service contract on file for the permit to stay in good standing.
Usually a failed aerator or compressor, a stuck float, or a pump that is not keeping up. The alarm is a high-water warning. It means the system is not moving water the way it should. Call us before you keep using water heavily; that is what turns a repair into a replacement.
Water Main Taps (Hot Taps)
Service details →It is a connection made into a live, pressurized water main using a tapping machine that cuts through the pipe wall while a valve holds back the water. Nobody on that main loses service. The alternative, shutting the main down, means boil advisories and angry neighbors.
Almost always, and it comes from the local water department or municipality rather than the county. We handle that coordination, including scheduling the inspection and the pressure test.
Yes, that is precisely what a hot tap is for. It is the standard method for adding a service to an existing main in an occupied area.
Always. Ohio law requires notifying OUPS (811) at least 48 hours before excavation. We make that call on every job, including small ones.
Underground Utility Installation
Service details →It varies by utility. Water lines go below the frost line, generally 36 inches or more in our part of Ohio. Electric conduit depth depends on voltage and whether it is direct-buried or in conduit. Gas is set by the utility. We bury to the governing code for each line, not to whatever is convenient.
Yes, that is one of our most common jobs. We trench the run, install conduit and water line in the same trench where code allows the separation, and coordinate with your electrician on the terminations.
Most residential service runs are a one to two day job once locates are clear. Longer runs, rock, or road crossings add time. The 48-hour OUPS notice is usually the real scheduling constraint.
Yes. We compact the backfill in lifts so the trench does not settle into a rut, then grade, topsoil, and seed. A trench we dug should not be findable a season later.
Tile Drain Repair & Replacement
Service details →The classic sign is a wet spot that returns in the same place every year, often in a line, sometimes with a soft depression or a small sinkhole above the failed section. A tile outlet that used to run steadily and now barely trickles is another strong indicator.
A single failure point excavated and repaired is usually a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars. Replacing a long silted-in run or installing new pattern tile across acreage is priced by the foot. We quote after locating the problem, because guessing costs you money.
Absolutely, and it is one of the most commonly missed causes. A leach field can only work if the soil beneath it can accept water. If groundwater is sitting in that soil, the field has nowhere to discharge and it backs up. Fixing the drainage sometimes saves a system people were told to replace.
Yes. We install new field tile, pattern tile, French drains, curtain drains, and surface inlets on ground that never had drainage, for farms, homes, arenas, and building sites.
General Excavation
Service details →Hourly rates for an operated machine depend on the machine and whether trucking is included. For most defined jobs we quote a fixed price instead, because that puts the risk of a slow day on us rather than on you. Call for a free estimate and we will tell you which pricing makes sense for your job.
Yes. A half-day of dirt work is a real job to us. Because we own our equipment rather than renting it, small jobs do not carry the mobilization penalty they do with larger outfits.
Yes. We run our own dump trucks, so haul-off and haul-in are handled by the same crew doing the excavation.
Yes. We dig new ponds, clean out silted-in ponds, and repair dams and spillways. Note that some pond work near regulated waterways requires permitting. We will flag that during the site visit.
Foundation Excavation
Service details →A typical residential basement dig is one to two days on good soil with clear access. Rock, groundwater, or a tight site adds time. Footer trenching is usually another half day.
Yes. A large share of our excavation work is subcontracted from builders and general contractors in Champaign, Logan, Miami, Clark, and Union Counties. We are used to working a build schedule and hitting our window.
Yes. We install perimeter drain tile and washed stone at the footer and tie it to daylight or a sump, which is the difference between a dry basement and a recurring problem.
It depends on the site. If the grading plan can use it, we stockpile and reuse it for backfill and final grade. If not, we haul it off in our own trucks.
Grading Services
Service details →Cost is driven mostly by whether we can balance cut and fill on site or have to truck material in or out. Small corrective grading on a residential lot is a different job than full lot grading on new construction with topsoil and seed, and we price each by area and how much material has to move. The common standard is a minimum of six inches of fall in the first ten feet away from the foundation. That single detail prevents more wet basements than any other grading decision.
Often, yes, if the problem is surface water ponding in a low spot with nowhere to go. If the problem is subsurface groundwater or broken field tile, grading alone will not do it and you need drainage work. We tell you which one you have.
Yes. Final grade includes topsoil, seed, and straw unless you are having a landscaper follow us. Bare graded dirt washes out fast, so stabilizing it is part of the job.
Building Pad Construction
Service details →It depends on size, how much fill has to be imported, and how far off level the existing ground sits. Sites that need significant fill hauled in cost more than ground that is already close to grade. Call for a free estimate based on your site.
As a rule of thumb, at least six to twelve inches above the surrounding finished grade, with the surface crowned. The exact number depends on how the site drains. The goal is that water never has a path into the building.
If the fill is placed and compacted in proper lifts, you can build on it right away. That is the whole point of compacting in lifts. A pad dumped in one pile and pushed flat is the one that needs to sit through a winter, and even then it will settle unevenly.
Yes. We place and compact the stone base and finish it flat and to grade so your builder can start immediately.
Driveway Installation & Resurfacing
Service details →It is priced per square foot for a properly built drive with base and finish courses, and a typical residential drive costs quite a bit less than a long rural lane. Sites needing fabric, significant fill, or a culvert cost more. Call for a free estimate; we will walk the site before we give you a number.
A compacted base of larger stone such as #2 or crushed #304, topped with a finish course. Skipping the base and putting decorative stone straight on dirt is why so many drives fail. The stone works down into the soil under load and the drive turns to mud.
Almost always water. If the drive is flat or dished instead of crowned, water sits on it, softens the base, and traffic pumps out the fines. Fixing the crown and the ditch line does more than another load of stone will.
Yes. We install and replace culvert pipe where the drive meets the road, sized so the ditch actually carries water through. Note that culverts in a county or township right-of-way usually require a permit, which we will flag and coordinate.
Concrete Core Drilling
Service details →It depends on diameter, wall or slab thickness, access, and whether the concrete is heavily reinforced. Multiple holes on the same trip cost far less per hole than separate visits. Call for a free estimate.
Yes, poured walls, block walls, footers, and slabs. We check for rebar before drilling anything structural, and we will tell you if a proposed location is a bad idea structurally rather than just drilling it.
Wet coring produces slurry, so there is water involved. We contain and vacuum it. It is far less disruptive than dry cutting, which fills a finished space with concrete dust.
We handle everything from small conduit penetrations up through large diameter holes for sewer and water service lines. Tell us the pipe size and we will confirm the core size before we arrive.
Sidewalk & Concrete Flatwork
Service details →It is priced per square foot and depends on thickness, reinforcement, finish, and whether old concrete has to be removed first. Tear-out and haul-off of an existing walk adds meaningfully to the cost. Call for a free estimate.
Four inches is standard for pedestrian walks. Six inches with reinforcement where vehicles may cross it, including the apron section of a walk that crosses a driveway, which is where most under-built walks break.
Generally 24 to 48 hours for foot traffic and about a week before vehicle traffic, with full design strength at 28 days. Cold weather extends all of those windows.
Usually an inadequate base, missing or badly spaced control joints, or water getting under the slab and freezing. Ohio's freeze-thaw cycling is brutal on concrete that was placed on dirt instead of compacted stone.
Land Clearing
Service details →Light brush and small trees cost meaningfully less per acre than heavily wooded ground with large trees and full stump grubbing. Debris disposal method is a major cost driver, and burning on site is cheaper than hauling off. Call for a free estimate once we have seen the ground.
We grub out root balls, not just cut at grade. If you plan to build, farm, or mow the ground, leaving stumps in place creates voids as they decay and causes settlement later.
Depending on your preference and local burn regulations, we burn on site, chip it, or haul it off. Usable timber or firewood can be stacked and left for you.
Usually not for routine clearing on your own property, but clearing near a regulated stream or wetland, or in a floodplain, can trigger permitting. Open burning is also regulated by Ohio EPA and local rules. We will flag anything we see during the site visit.
Gravel & Dirt Delivery
Service details →A rough rule: one ton of crushed limestone covers about 80 to 100 square feet at 2 inches deep. For a new drive you want more depth than that across base and finish courses. Give us your length and width and we will calculate the tonnage.
#57 is a clean, uniform washed stone with no fines. It drains well, which makes it right for pipe bedding and drainage, but it stays loose and shifts underfoot. #304 is crushed limestone with fines mixed in, so it packs hard and locks together, which is what you want for a driveway base.
A tandem dump truck typically carries about 10 to 15 tons depending on material density and legal load limits. For larger jobs we run multiple loads or bring a trailer.
Yes. We can spread with a skid steer or dozer while we are on site, which almost always costs less than renting a machine and doing it yourself.
